Overview
Atmos is a photography forecasting app built around one principle: your data stays on your device. There is no Atmos account, no backend server, no advertising network, and no analytics SDK. This policy explains what the app accesses, why, and where that information goes.
Location
Atmos requests location access ("While Using the App") to do two things: calculate the precise timing of golden hour, blue hour, and sunrise and sunset for your position, and pass your coordinates to Apple WeatherKit to retrieve a local weather forecast.
Your coordinates are sent directly from your device to Apple's WeatherKit servers. Atmos itself never receives, stores, or transmits your location to any server it controls, because no such server exists.
Location is never accessed in the background except through the standard iOS Background App Refresh mechanism described below.
Weather Data
Weather forecasts are provided by Apple WeatherKit. When the app requests a forecast, your device contacts Apple's servers directly. Apple's privacy policy governs that exchange. Atmos caches the returned forecast data locally on your device for up to ten minutes to avoid redundant network requests.
Atmos does not use any other weather provider.
Notifications
If you enable golden hour or fog alerts, Atmos schedules those notifications entirely on-device using iOS's local notification system. No notification passes through a third-party push service or any Atmos server. Notification content (your location name, score, and timing) is generated locally and never leaves your device.
Background Refresh
Atmos uses iOS Background App Refresh to update your forecast and reschedule upcoming notifications while the app is not open. This refresh uses location and WeatherKit in the same way as a foreground refresh. It does not run continuously and is subject to iOS's standard background refresh scheduling, which you can disable in iOS Settings.
Widgets
The Atmos widget reads a small snapshot of forecast data (next golden hour score, fog probability, sunrise and sunset times) from a shared app group container on your device. This is a standard iOS mechanism for sharing data between an app and its widget extension. The data never leaves your device.
Local Storage
Atmos stores the following data locally on your device using iOS standard storage:
- Your notification and display preferences (UserDefaults)
- A cached copy of your most recent weather forecast (device cache directory, cleared on app deletion)
- Widget snapshot data (shared app group container, cleared on app deletion)
Nothing is stored in iCloud, synced to any server, or shared with any third party.
Purchases
Atmos is a one-time purchase through the App Store. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. Atmos does not receive any payment or billing information.
Analytics and Tracking
Atmos contains no analytics SDK, crash reporting service, advertising network, or third-party tracking library. The app does not use Apple's SKAdNetwork or any other attribution framework. No usage data, crash logs, or behavioral data is collected.
Children
Atmos does not knowingly collect information from anyone. Because no data is collected at all, there is no age-related distinction in how the app operates.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the updated version will be posted with a revised date. Because Atmos collects no personal data, most changes are unlikely to affect you.
