Frost Watch

Effective date: March 29, 2026

1. Overview

Frost Watch is built to help you protect your plants from frost. We respect your privacy and designed the app to collect as little data as possible. This policy explains what information Frost Watch accesses, how it is used, and your choices.

2. Information Frost Watch processes

Location data

Frost Watch uses your location to fetch local weather forecasts and calculate frost risk. You can choose to:

  • Share device location — the app requests "When In Use" location permission at kilometer-level accuracy. Your coordinates are used only to request weather data.
  • Enter a location manually — you can search for and select any location without granting location permission.

Plant selections

When you add plants to your garden, Frost Watch stores the plant type and any custom name you provide so it can alert you when temperatures approach their frost thresholds.

Frost event history

The app records frost risk events (forecast temperatures, risk scores, and any frost damage you report) to build a local history for your reference.

Preferences

Your settings — temperature units, time format, notification preferences, and saved locations — are stored so the app works the way you want.

3. How your data is used

  • Weather forecasting: Your location is used by Apple WeatherKit to retrieve forecast data. WeatherKit is an Apple framework — requests are handled by Apple's infrastructure under Apple's privacy policy.
  • Frost alerts: Forecasts are analyzed on your device to calculate frost risk and schedule local notifications.
  • Widget display: Your most recent location is shared with the Frost Watch widget through a secure on-device app group container so the widget can show current frost risk.

4. Third-party services

Frost Watch uses Apple WeatherKit to retrieve weather forecasts. WeatherKit is provided by Apple and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. No other third-party services, analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or crash reporting tools are integrated.

5. Data storage

All your data is stored locally on your device:

  • Plant selections, frost history, and saved locations are stored in an on-device database
  • Preferences and cached weather data are stored in local app storage
  • No data is uploaded to our servers or any cloud service. We do not operate servers or databases that store your information.

6. Data sharing

Frost Watch does not sell, share, or transfer your personal data to third parties. The only data that leaves your device is your location passed to Apple WeatherKit to retrieve forecasts, which is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

7. Background activity

Frost Watch may refresh weather data in the background (typically once daily) to keep frost alerts accurate. This uses the same location-to-forecast process described above. You can disable background refresh in your device's Settings.

8. Your choices

  • Location permission: You can revoke location access at any time in Settings > Privacy > Location Services. You can always use a manually entered location instead.
  • Notifications: You can disable frost alerts in the app's notification settings or in Settings > Notifications.
  • Delete your data: You can remove saved plants, locations, and frost history within the app. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.

9. Children's privacy

Frost Watch does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app does not require an account and does not collect personal identifiers.

10. Changes to this policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will post the revised version at this URL with an updated effective date.
